WNW: A Higher Brow Alphabet Song

I can't remember where I first saw this clip, but most recently, fellow writer Braden Bell pointed me to it, knowing it was right up my alley.

I'm a huge fan of A Capella groups, which I was introduced to through my cousin John Luthy, the founder and amazing vocal percussionist for Voice Male. (If you go to the site right now, he's the one in the purple shirt on the right.)

BYU's famous Vocal Point group took the alphabet song and gave it a word-nerd twist. In addition to the clip being laugh-out-loud funny, it's a great example of just how wonky and weird English really is.

this was great. I think it was actually bare naked ladies who first sang it. I like this version, though.

Someone's been listening to their Barenaked Ladies . . . this song is on my kids' favorite cd, called "Snacktime". It's awesome -- includes my personal favorite, with these lyrics:

The ninjas are deadly and silent.
They're also unspeakably violent
They speak Japanese
They do whatever they please
Sometimes they vacation in Ireland.

(And I have to say, it's also extremely funny sung in Canadian. Since that's where BNL are from.)

I'm going to kick-butt in Words With Friends with that "Qat" one. Reminds me of some of Gallagher's stand up when he would critique the English language: "t-o-m-b..." It's pretty funny: http://youtu.be/uWN9rTc08GU
