WNW: When Spell Check Won't Help

My sister (and fellow word nerd) sent me the following photos, all taken within a 48-hour period.

I knew right away we had a Word Nerd Wednesday on our hands. Laugh with me!

(Captions hers.)

An unfortunate error . . .
this is what happens when a parent does the typing
then tells the kid to cut out & paste all his own tags
for his report on horses in Mexico.

Maybe it's just a really small selection . . .

Apparently, both the ginger beer and root beer are for BINGERS.

The historical exhibit stands alongside three or four
other plaques that discuss (quite clearly) the ApostaSy.

These kinds of things are the reason that some days I wish I had the guts to carry a Sharpie everywhere I go . . . and correct signs that make their creators look well, not quite intelligent.

I once saw a big sign in a dancewear place on a display of tights that said "Thighs on sale!! $11.99!"

I almost asked if I could buy a smaller pair for myself.....

(Seriously, smaller thighs for less than twelve dollars?)

I've been known to change a sign or two in the grocery store... or at the stake center... my motto is "speak softly and carry a big marker"

my favorite (though I didn't change it because it was by the checker's elbow) was the advertisement for "Sympathy Bars"... with a large stack of Hershey's Symphony bars next to it... I DID ask the checker if she had to listen to my sob story if I bought one... and then I had to explain it... I think she was the one who made the sign. oops!

Good post for WNW
My biggest fear is being someone's example! But it's a good kind of fear. It keeps me on my toes, for the most part. Although there are a few times when small errors slip past my anxious eyes.

My youngest sister does carry a sharpie just for this kind of thing. Our mom gave it to her for Christmas.

You should, Annette. It would make the world a better place.

Ha! If I carried a sharpie, this town would be full of signs with black X's through words and spelled correctly. :D

Love it!

How many of them do you think noticed it, but didn't have the money, time, patience or whatever to fix it and so just put it up there anyway?!

Love these!

I love catching those things. They always make my day a little brighter. Don't bring a sharpie, then the rest of us couldn't have our laughs. :)

It's like that Engrish website with bad translation only much, much sadder because it's our own language.
